Promote research in science, technology, and environment by providing financial support to scientists and experts in the State.

Advise Government departments and public bodies on matters related to science, technology, and environment.

Upgrade the existing systems and sky shows of the Guwahati Planetarium.

Implement various schemes/programmes through subordinate organisations/institutions (ASTEC, AEDA, CPP, IASST).

Manage the administration of the Science & Technology Department.

Undertake programmes to popularize science and technology among children and the public.

Undertake space technology projects for natural resource management and support user departments through ASSAC and ASTEC.

Implement programmes of the Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy.

Provide support to innovators for obtaining intellectual property rights through the Patent Information System at ASTEC.
